BIOGRAPHY as A DJ
PRIMO is a project from DJ Hironobu Jyounai who is very very happening cat in tokyo as a DJ and record producer. With the Primo label he has released some very tasty vocal jazz, fusion and Brazilian gems. Hironobu already had successful releases. "A Child Runs Free" was featured on on Gilles Peterson World Wide, "Music For Jazzdancers"(Freestyle-UK), Contemporary Jazz"(Tramp-Ger) and had a great reaction from domestic and foreign hard diggers as ”Great dance track with a conscience!” In 2010, We've got Long-awaited new work "March Of The Goober Woobers e.p.". About next work, "SUN e.p." is released in the summer 2011. We may follow his radio DJ proposal at monthly radioshow “Jazzbrothers” on Shibuya FM.

- 4 tracks (24:15)A1. SUN : A really great set of spiritually-tuned jazz from PRIMO. This has a freewheeling, exploratory sound that takes off in a mode that's a bit post-Coltrane, but which also has some freer touches too. This track have a rhythmic, Strata East-like quality.
A2. Why He Had To Go : This is my sound encapsulated in four minutes of heart-stopping soul perfection. Clear vocal over a smoky beat, elegant horns and throbbing bass!
B1. Tell Me A Bedtime Story : PRIMO takes on Herbie Hancock - turning in a heavenly version of the classic - smooth, soulful, groover with Latin-influnced beat, spectacular horns, beautiful piano, lots of great keyboard lines and incredible vocals from Kylie Auldist.Kylie's voice reminds me very much of early Aretha Franklin.
B2. Why He Had To Go (Patchworks Disco Remix) : This Remix is performed by Bruno Hovart - under various names and into different projects : Patchworks, Metropolitan Jazz Affair, Mr President, The Dynamics, Cinnamone, Porks Watch etc...

The work here has some great qualities that remind you of some of the best European fusion from mid 70's – a sense of soaring, stretching energy – and one that never resorts to too much jamming to carry across its message, and which juxtaposes heavier rhythms with some gentler tunes that really allow the horn parts some wonderful moments!

It was collected to a lot of compilations such as "Music For Jazzdancers"(Freestyle-UK), "Contemporary Jazz"(Tramp-Ger). A lot of famous DJ also publish in the playlist, and it receives high acclaim from domestic and foreign hard diggers.
- 1 tracks (05:13)The fusion/jazz group REVERIE was co-founded by keyboardist / principal composer Mark Knox and drummer Jim Miller in their Midwestern U.S. hometown of Indianapolis in the mid-seventies. Upon relocating to the East Coast, they encountered saxophonist E.J. Yellen (b. Brooklyn, NY) and bassist Gerald Veasley (b. Philadelphia, PA); shortly thereafter (1979) they recorded their first "demo" in New York City.
- 1 tracks (05:03)An extremely rare record by BEA BENJAMIN aka "Sathima" (wife of South African pianist/composer, Dollar Brand/Abdullah Ibrahim), found on the EKAPA label, #001 (a vanity imprint), and issued from recordings at the Downtown Sound Studios, NYC, in April, 1979, called "Sathima Sings Ellington" - in loving tribute to Duke Ellington with whom she worked. Mr. Brand also produced the album. Tunes are: "In A Mellow Tone"; "Prelude To A Kiss"; "Sophisticated Lady"; "Mood Indigo"; "Lush Life"; "I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart" and "Solitude".

- 1 tracks (11:37)Ultra-rare, private release from the early seventies, and what an album it is too. Prepare to be dazzled by Ms Grauer's awesome explosion of Fender jazz!! Funky fusion of the highest order, this LP is truly a delight to listen to. Intricate playing, funky beats, great tunes. Including the original version of "Frog Child" taking a funkier, more direct approach, the effect is electrifying. "Inside, Outside" - that groove just won't stop.
- 1 tracks (02:47)A totally amazing vocal jazz album from the early 70s -- an obscure private pressing album from Primo Kim, an obscure singer -- but a great one too! Primo's got a very hip approach to his work -- a sound that's somewhere in the territory of Mark Murphy or Bobby Cole -- light years from mainstream male vocals, and often served up with some very jazzy grooves in the background! Many tracks here are originals by Primo, and a few others are well-chosen covers too -- and in a way, the feel is quite like some of Mark Murphy's best overseas work of the 60s, or Bobby Cole's landmark album from the early 60s -- a set without compare, and with a freshness that's just getting appreciated all these many years later.
